We are happy to announce that for the second year in a row, the Schmidt Legacy Foundation has presented $10,000 to the ongoing Genomics of Young Lung Cancer study being conducted by the Addario Lung Cancer Medical Institute (ALCMI) in collaboration with Dr. Gitlitz at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The Young Lung study is the first of its kind and aims to identify new genome-defined subtypes of lung cancer in patients under 40 so that these patients are able to receive more targeted therapy. It is fully expected that lives will be saved because of this research program. This study is being conducted at sites around the world, more and more patients are participating and it is receiving international attention. In fact, Dr Barbara Gitlitz, who is leading the study, will be presenting preliminary data at a conference for the American Association for Cancer Research this Saturday. We are very excited to have provided the seed grant to make this study possible and to continue to support ALCMI and this exciting project.
